Tottenham are closing in on a cash-plus-player deal to sign midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United, sources have told ESPN.
Spurs are expected to pay between £25 million-£30m ($31.6m-$36m) for the 18-year-old with defender Joe Rodon moving to Elland Road as part of the agreement between the two clubs.
Tottenham have moved quickly to land Gray after Brentford’s move for Gray collapsed at the last minute over a failure to agree a fee payment structure.
Gray was expected to undergo a Brentford medical over the weekend before the transfer stalled and Spurs are now near to finalising an agreement with Championship side Leeds under pressure to sell players in order to comply with financial fair play regulations.
Sources told ESPN on May 20 that Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has asked the club for at least three new signings this summer as he looks to build on last season’s fifth-place Premier League finish.
One of his requirements was a central midfielder — although Gray can also play at right-back — with the club also looking for a striker to help provide competition for Son Heung-Min and Richarlison, although the latter has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Gray made 52 appearances across all competitions last season as Leeds missed out on promotion from the Championship after losing the playoff final 1-0 to Southampton in May.
Rodon joined Tottenham from Swansea in October 2020 for an initial £11m fee but struggled to impose himself, starting just eight Premier League games.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Leeds, where he made 50 appearances.
